Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect with my first massage session with Massage Restoration?
At the initial appointment, please arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and allow time to discuss goals for your session. To start the session, privacy will be provided to disrobe. Clients always disrobe to their level of comfort, before laying on the massage table. Sheets and a warm cozy blanket with a heated table are provided and expect soft lighting, calming music, and essential oils in a diffuser to enhance the session. High standards of professionalism and work ethics are a priority to provide a safe and comfortable environment to receive physical touch. Proper draping will always be in place for each client when getting a massage. I will maintain a level of trust and a respectful relationship with each of my clients. When the massage is finished, you can expect privacy within the space to get a sense of rejuvenation and deep relaxation before meeting outside of the massage room to complete the session.

Does Massage Restoration Treat Minors?
Yes. I have 8 years of experience working with children and young adults in a school setting as a PT Assistant, so I love working with kids! However, I do NOT have my infant massage certification. I would refer you out to someone certified in infant massage. I do however treat children/teens. In fact, I currently work with young athletes to assist with performance enhancement and injury prevention. I do require a parent or guardian to be present during the session.***

Do I have to take off all of my clothes?
The answer is no! You always disrobe to your level of comfort. When receiving a Swedish or therapeutic massage, professional draping will always allow the client to feel safe. If you prefer to leave an article of clothing on, we will work around it without a problem. The body part/area of the body that is receiving the work will be the only area exposed at a time. A restorative sports massage can be very different. In fact, a request to bring gym apparel is not unusual, as this is a more dynamic session with active stretch and movement on the table that is best in this type of clothing.
What kind of techniques do you use?
Each session is unique to your individual needs. Some of the modalities that are used: light touch with a Swedish massage flow, trigger point therapy, deep tissue, stretching, muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, cupping and barefoot massage techniques.
Does massage therapy hurt?
Massage is not intended to be painful. Hand placement techniques, and levels of touch from light, medium and deep are used to provide comfortable levels of touch. I always encourage open communication with my clients to provide feedback if increased pressure or lighter pressure to a certain area needs to be adjusted at any time during the massage. My goal is for each session to be relaxing yet therapeutic. Following a therapeutic session, you may experience soreness afterwards or the following day-similar to what you experience following a workout. Increasing water intake is highly recommended.
What if i am sensitive to certain areas to be touched or massaged?
I always encourage clients to communicate this prior to your appointment and welcome that communication at any time during the massage. This is a safe environment to receive therapeutic touch and the client can say “no” to any intervention or massage technique that is not preferred.
Do most people talk during the massage?
That is totally up to you! Some clients prefer to talk during the massage and that is totally fine. However, other clients prefer deep relaxation and silence during the session and that is fine, too. I will follow your lead and be mindful of how you prefer the session to be. The only time communication is encouraged is when something hurts or is uncomfortable. Please don’t hesitate to speak up-this is not offensive or does not hurt my feelings if variations need to be made.
